The Ministry of Interior of the Interim Government of National Unity announced intensive security patrols in desert areas along the border strip between Libya and Algeria.
The move aims to tighten control over border crossings and prevent smuggling operations in the area.
The Interior Ministry statement said that the border security division in the Ghadames area carries out patrols extending from the Hataba area and penetrating Wadi al-Bir through Wadi Talib.
A patrol from the Ghadames security department recently thwarted an attempt to smuggle mobile phones from Libya out of the border.
The city of Ghadames, near the Libyan-Tunisian-Algerian border triangle, is witnessing security tensions as a result of its geographical location and the illegal operations taking place in this common border crossing between the three countries.
