Palestinian female directors were honoured in Algeria on Friday, where a series of short films directed by these women were screened.
The honor came in recognition of director Walaa Saadeh, the author of the film “Silk Threads”, who was recently killed in Gaza by Israeli bombardment.
This evening of honor for Palestinian cinema was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts by the Algiers International Film Festival in partnership with the Algerian Center for Cinema, at the Algerian Cinema Museum.
The evening was held under the slogan “I am Palestinian” and witnessed the screening of short films produced by the Women’s Screens Association, which seeks to promote Palestinian films and support them financially, in the presence of an actress and member of this association, Nada Khalifa.
Several films were screened at the event, including “Silk Threads”, which tells the story of an old artisan seamstress who loves her profession and seeks to preserve traditions, and is keen with all her strength to convey and continue them.
Zeina Ramadan’s “Narrative” was embodied in the voice exchange between two friends, and the review of stories of the search for freedom and exit from Gaza, while the film “Al-Ghoul”, written and directed by Alaa Desouki, dealt with social interpretations of this concept over time.
Dina Amin’s Grape Leaves showcased her grandmother’s memories from Syria, and Fidaa Nasser’s “I wish I Were Not Palestinian” highlights the resilience of Palestinians despite the challenges they face.
