A young Moroccan woman wearing a hijab was spat by a French man, prompting French authorities to reassure visitors and residents that any form of racism will not be tolerated.
Fatima Saidi, a 22-year-old resident of Madrid, said the incident occurred while she was walking around with her friend in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, when the assailant spat on her hijab for no apparent reason.
Saidi shared her experience on her Instagram account through a documentary video, expressing her shock at the reaction of her Paris-based friend when she told her that such incidents are common in the city.
In another post, Saidi pointed out that Paris is a beautiful city, but such incidents make the experience very negative, and stressed the need to confront those men who believe they have the power to behave in this way only because they see themselves in a better position.
