Nigeria and Cameroon gather a decisive summit in the most prominent round of sixteen matches of the African Cup of Nations football tournament on Saturday.
The two teams meet at the “Houphouët-Bonnet” Stadium in Abidjan, which saw the 1984 African Cup of Nations final in Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon won their first title after beating Nigeria 3-1.
It is one of the most iconic classic matches in African football at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The two teams have met seven times in the tournament, including three finals in 1984, 1988 and 2000, all of which ended in Cameroon winning the title.
Nigeria’s “Green Eagles” retain the advantage in the history of head-to-head confrontations between the two teams, both in official and friendly matches.
Cameroon have won three African Nations titles at the expense of Nigeria in the finals, most recently in 2000 on Nigerian soil.
Of the 25 matches between the two teams in the past, Nigeria have won 12 to Cameroon’s 5, while 8 ended in draws.
