A British woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding the benefits scheme, secretly filming her walking three miles despite claiming she was unable to walk.
The case involves a 50-year-old woman named Annette Bond, who received an estimated £70,000 in benefits over ten years, claiming she had multiple sclerosis.
She was followed and photographed by fraud investigators walking a local road normally, despite claiming she was unable to stand due to her health condition.
Investigators estimated that Bond traveled about three miles, and that she did so regularly three times a week.
Investigators confirmed that she did not provide correct information to the benefits program, did not report any change in her health status or mobility between June 2004 and November 2018, and that she was running an online business during the period of receiving benefits.
She was convicted of fraudulently receiving interest worth close to £70,000 and sentenced to two years in prison, as well as ordered to repay the money she deceived from taxpayers.
